Climate Canvas is a revolutionary framework designed by Mr. Arun Hsu and Mr. Vladan Raznatovic to assist businesses of all sizes in developing an actionable climate change mitigation and adaptation plan. Drawing inspiration from the successful Business Model Canvas, Climate Canvas is a one-page template with nine building blocks that is particularly beneficial to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). To ensure the successful application of Climate Canvas, the Climate Canvas Initiative was established, which brings together four businesses from the U.S., Morocco, Brussels, and Iraq with extensive expertise in the private sector and international development.
Through our current platform, which includes a website, blog, guide, web app, case studies, and LinkedIn page, our goal is to provide resources to practitioners and SMEs to help them understand climate-change risks and develop strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
The Climate Canvas Initiative is embracing artificial intelligence (AI) to further empower small businesses in developing countries to mitigate and adapt to climate change. AI will be used to analyze large volumes of data to identify and quantify climate change drivers. AI can then be used to recommend and automatically implement strategies to tackle climate change risks. Additionally, AI will be used to create more personalized Climate Action Plans for each business, ensuring that the most effective and efficient measures are put in place.
The Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Program for SMEs is a hands-on training workshop that takes business owners through the process of creating a Climate Canvas for their business. This program is designed to be scalable for donors to use as a basis for selecting SMEs for further technical assistance, grants, or loans.
SMEs are a major contributor to greenhouse emissions and other forms of environmental degradation, yet responsible governments often neglect to involve them in climate change initiatives. The Climate Canvas Initiative was developed to address these issues, such as a lack of awareness, limited time, expertise, and access to finance needed to invest in mitigation and adaptation measures. Through our platform and training program, we hope to contribute to the urgent need for action on climate change.
